Andy's Fined For Tobacco Infraction


The Mashpee Board of Health delivered a five-day tobacco sales suspension to Andy’s Market on Route 151 last week after an employee of the store allegedly sold cigarettes to a minor during a Barnstable County sting, the second time the store has been caught within two years.
As part of the five-day suspension, Andy’s was fined $200, a nominal fee compared to what the suspension reportedly will cost the store. Members of the board of health decided to reduce the suspension from seven to five days despite the seven-day penalty specified in the board’s own regulations for a second violation within four years.
The owner of the store, Bryan Anderson, pleaded with the board last Thursday, April 7, for leniency. Mr. Anderson said that a full-week suspension would cost his operation $20,000 to $30,000. Read More>
